Deadline has come and gone but trades often trickle in up until 4pm or so.

NYI send Chris Simon to MIN for 6th round pick.

Marian Hossa goes from ATL along with Pascal DuPuis to PIT for 3 forwards Christensen (like him), Armstrong (love him), and Esposito (no opinion) AND a 1st round pick. PIT got ROBBED for a rent-a-player. It does make me wonder if Regier would've been better off waiting until much closer to the deadline to deal Campbell. I like what BUF got in return from SJ, but PIT just gave up a TON.

TOR send D Hal Gill to PIT for a 2nd and a 5th. It's fun to watch John Ferguson critique Cliff Fletcher's moves on TSN.

STL sends D Christian Backman to NYR for a 4th.

VAN send Matt Cooke to WSH for Matt Pettinger. WSH is busy today.

Sergei Federov from CBJ to WSH. Bob MacKenzie on TSN says Kolzig isn't going anywhere but why add Federov and Huet (both slated to be UFA) when your team is 5 points back of a playoff spot if you're NOT planning something else?

Thinking about the Huet to WSH deal... This could make Olaf Kolzig available to a contender. He's one of those guys who scares me every time BUF faces him so I'm hoping he doesn't wind up in OTT. As scary as OTT looks, I take solace in the Emery/Gerber combo between the pipes. And if they want to add Roloson, feel free. Just leave Kolzig in WSH please.

Adam Foote from CBJ to COL a day after Peter Forsberg returns. Rob Blake is rumored to be next. If they can bring in Blake, I guarantee that Pierre LaCroix has locked up the Stanley Cup... in 2001.

FLA sends noted knee-attacker D Ruslan Salei to COL.

Biggest non-Campbell trade of the day that I haven't mentioned yet involves Brad Richards (and his big dumb salary) and G Johan Holmqvist to the Dallas Stars for G Mike Smith, C Jeff Halpern, F Jussi Jokinen. Too many big contracts up front necessitated shipping Richards out. He's a nice catch for DAL and he should flourish in the Western Conference. Smith has the potential to solidify the TB goalie situation for the first time since the departure of Khabibulin. That said, I never like to get too excited about flashes from goaltenders until they've done it for at least a couple of years. I've seen too many Jim Carrey types come and go over the years.

12:34PM
CHI sends Martin LaPointe to OTT for a 6th round pick. TSN is speculating that this may indicate that OTT is out of the running to re-acquire Hossa... I'm not sure why the two things would be related.

Earlier moves include G Cristobal Huet from MON to WSH in exchange for a 2nd round pick. The big story here, to me, is that MON has the look of a legit contender in the east and they're putting their fate in the hands (and pads) of rookie Carey Price. A hot goaltender is a hot goaltender regardless of age and nobody knows this better than the franchise that rode Ken Dryden to a Stanley Cup the year BEFORE he won the Calder Trophy as the league's top rookie.

As I mentioned below, this isn't the place for breaking news. Like most of you, I was waiting for the Campbell move and everything from here on is gravy. I'm in the process of getting yesterday's show online. In the meantime, the last hour or so has been pretty crazy and I'll have comments on many of the moves as I get to them, specifically the addition of Steve Bernier to the Sabres.

This won't be the place to read breaking news... leave that to the Canadian media. But, I figure if I'm going to be online all day refreshing website after website and watching TSN Tradecentre on TV (thanks, NHL Network), I might as well put some thoughts up here periodically.
The newest episode of our tv show (featuring Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News) aired last night and will be online at some point today as well. Because of the Tuesday trade deadline, doing a show on Monday was a bit of a delicate situation. Hopefully you'll get a chance to watch it BEFORE it becomes outdated.
