CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) - A retired New York State Trooper was killed in a motorcycle accident in Cheektowaga Friday.
Cheektowaga Police Captain John Glascott says 52-year-old retired Trooper Robert Binns was on a motorcycle on Union Road near William Street when the accident occurred.
18-year-old Jeffery Kolacki was heading in the opposite direction and was waved on by another driver that it was okay to make a left turn into the Mobil gas station at that intersection.
Binns was thrown off his motorcycle and suffered severe injuries.
He was pronounced dead at ECMC.
Kolacki has been charged with failure to yield the right of way.
In Cheektowaga tonight, a car traveling north on Union Road attempted to turn left into a gas station at the corner of William Street. The motorcycle was heading south on Union Road in the right lane. A southbound vehicle in the left lane had stopped to allow the car to make the turn.
The driver of the car was born in 1981 and the motorcyclist is 52 years old.
