If you thought Friday night's marathon extra inning game between the Reds Sox and Yankees was a long game take a look at some of the longest games in baseball history.
The longest extra inning game was a match between the Chicago White Sox and the Milwaukee Brewers back in may of 1984. The game went 25 innings and over eight hours before Harold Baines cracked a homer to end the game. The game was actually played on consecutive night due to a curfew at 1 am and would continue the next day tied at three runs apiece.
The most innings played in MLB history is 26 in a game between Brooklyn Robins(Dodgers) and Boston Braves back in 1920. The game would end in a 1-1 tie due to the game being called because of darkness. Amazingly both starting pitchers would play complete games.
These two games have nothing on the longest game in the history of professional baseball. Back in 1981 between the Rochester red Wings, then triple-a affiliate of the baltimore Orioles, and the Pawtucket Red Sox who were Boston's farm team of course. The game would go 32 innings before finally being suspended around 4 am and played later in the season. The game would finally end on june 23rd 1981 in front of a sold out Mccoy Stadium in 33 innings. Hall of Famers Cal ripkin Jr. and Wade Boggs played in the historic game.
