Labatt USA, which moved its US corporate headquarters to Buffalo in July of 2007, will host a one-of-a-kind Labatt Blue Pond Hockey Tournament at Erie Basin Marina. The tournament was previously planned for Hoyt Lake at Delaware Park and the new location was selected due to unsafe ice conditions at Hoyt Lake.
Sixteen local teams, recruited by Performax Hockey Systems will compete in the tournament. Teams will be comprised primarily of advanced level players, 25 years of age and up, who play a four-on-four format, absent a goalie. Nets are six inches high and six feet wide like the goals used in USA Pond Hockey. Between four and six people will play on each team. Teams will compete in a round robin format in one of four divisions. The winner of each division advances to the semifinals. The two winning teams will dress in Labatt Blue white or blue jerseys and play for the Tournament Championship finals.
WHEN: Saturday, February 16, 2008, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
WHERE: Erie Basin Marina
